Client's Challenge:
Turning Mischief Into a Message of Kindness
The client approached us with a delightful and original children’s book idea—Edward and the Toilet Kids. Inspired by real family traditions, the story follows young Edward and his sisters as they encounter mischief, make a choice to respond with kindness, and inspire others to do the same. The challenge? Creating playful-yet-powerful visuals that balanced Halloween fun with a heartfelt message about leading with compassion.
Illustrating Halloween Magic with a Twist of Heart
At Graphic Expertise, we knew this wasn’t just a spooky adventure—it was a story about empathy and empowerment. To bring the story’s energy to life, we designed 20 engaging, brightly colored illustrations using a 3D art style that matched the quirky, festive tone of the book while still delivering an emotionally rich narrative.
We crafted Edward as a lovable 4.5-year-old boy with wide-eyed wonder and a big heart. His sisters, Grace and Cora, were illustrated with adventurous spirits and strong sibling connection. The mischievous “Toilet Kids” were designed with playful, expressive poses—never mean-spirited, just misguided—making their eventual transformation into “Kind Kids” feel authentic and satisfying.
From the tree-lined streets of Westfield, NJ to the glowing Halloween lights and pumpkin-filled porches, every scene was carefully built to reflect warmth, community, and seasonal charm. We leaned into visual humor and emotion—Edward’s shock at the mess, the Toilet Kids’ surprise at receiving kindness bags, and the joy of coming together to decorate with purpose.
The result? A vibrant, message-driven Halloween story that entertains while it uplifts. Edward and the Toilet Kids shows kids that small actions can have a big impact—and that even Mischief Night can become a night to remember for all the right reasons.
